Together, Conrad and his therapist handlers make a dynamic team, committed to providing exceptional therapeutic experiences for clients at Cedar Counseling & Wellness.

Please note that the decision to include Conrad in therapy sessions is made at the therapist’s discretion, and may not be guaranteed at every session. Grounding

With his gentle presence and soothing energy, Conrad helps clients anchor themselves, fostering a sense of stability and mindfulness. He will be able to place his head on clients’ feet, lap, or chest on command, providing a comforting and grounding sensation that promotes relaxation and a deeper connection with the present moment, creating a safe space for exploration and healing.

Stress Detection

Conrad possesses an incredible instinct for detecting and responding to stress in individuals. Conrad is able to recognize specific visual cues that indicate stress and offer clients a snuggle in response. His comforting presence and intuitive responses provide solace and emotional support during challenging times.

Comfort

Research has indicated that interactions with therapy dogs can enhance feelings of comfort, reduce anxiety, lower blood pressure, and provide a sense of emotional support. Whether you need a shoulder to lean on, a paw to hold, or simply someone to be there, Conrad can provide comforting snuggles and unconditional love.

Conrad's Handlers

Conrad’s primary handler is Caroline Fowler, LCSW-C. His secondary handlers are Marisa Padeletti, LGPC, Casey Gunther, LCSW-C, and Nora Padison, LCPC. All handlers are required to undergo training through Hero Dogs, Inc.

  • Conrad and his primary handler, Caroline Fowler, are a certified canine-handler team.
  • Conrad also completed the AKC Canine Good Citizen program prior to his therapy dog training.

  • Conrad then attended the Hero Dogs Advanced Training program to complete his certification.
  • Conrad will be assessed on a monthly basis by Hero Dogs staff for his first six months working as a therapy dog for any necessary continuing education.

On a Personal Note

  • Conrad is a bit of a rule follower; he becomes anxious if he thinks other pups he’s around are in ‘trouble’.
  • He also really, really loves humans! His trainers note that he ‘told’ them that he would like a career as a therapy dog based on his affectionate nature and love of people.
  • The only thing he loves just about as much as humans is a good game of fetch!
